PB's Sunday Adult Education Class

IN A DIVIDED POLICAL CLIMATE, How should the church

faithfully LOVE its neighbor WITHOUT losing its SOUL or its UNITY?

PB's Adult Class January 2026 Square

Christians today often find themselves deeply divided over questions of politics and civic engagement. These divisions are rarely about whether we should love our neighbor, but rather how we do so—and which laws, policies, and public actions truly promote the flourishing of all. From both the left and the right, there are growing calls for the church—not just individual Christians—to engage more directly in civic and policy matters. For some, this question is so pressing that frustration over the church’s perceived silence or restraint can even affect their participation in congregational life.

In this Sunday morning classPB will guide a thoughtful and faithful exploration of these tensions using our national church body’s recent social statement, “Faith and Civic Life: Seeking the Well-Being of All.” Alongside Scripture as our foundation, we will draw on carefully curated theological, historical, and ethical resources to wrestle with a central question: Should the church engage in politics and public policy—and if so, how and to what extent?

This class is not about telling you what to think or how to vote. Rather, it is an invitation to reflect deeply on our Christian vocation to love our neighbor and to consider how the church, as church, supports and shapes that calling in a polarized public square. Whether you feel strongly one way or are still sorting things out, this class offers a respectful space for serious conversation, faithful listening, and deeper discernment.
