Celebrate the 500th with 50 Days of Scripture and Luther
It is exactly 50 days between our Rally Day, September 10th, and Reformation Sunday, October 29th, which is the day we will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of Luther’s posting the 95 Theses and start of the Reformation. We are putting forth a challenge to you to read scripture every day for 50 days from Rally Day to Reformation Sunday. Luther says in his Preface to his translation of the New Testament, “In a word St. John’s Gospel and John’s first epistle, St. Paul’s epistles, especially Romans, Galatians, and Ephesians, and St. Peter’s first epistle are the books that show you Christ and teach you all that is necessary and salvatory for you to know, even if you were never to see or hear any other book or doctrine. In this devotional, passages from these favorite books of Luther are selected for us to read on each of the 50 days as well as a short word from Luther on each passage.
If you are a member of SLC, you may sign-up to receive a daily email with your scripture and reading by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with the message “50 Days List” or follow this link to access the entire “printer friendly” devotional. If you sign up for the daily emails, you will receive an email each day with your reading. Please note, the scripture verses are not printed out for you as we want you to look them up and read them from your print Bible or digital Bible! What better way to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation than to immerse yourself in some of Luther’s most beloved scriptures and ponder a short word from him?!
